Teotihuacan, México

Bones found in the burial chambers at Teotihuacan, México. These people were used during human sacrifices to the gods. The teeth were used as necklaces for the Gods.

Photowalk [5:15am]

This image finally loaded. It is from my walk to the gym at 5:15am. There is no sunlight, but lots of artificial light. The shadows seem more rigid here than with the sun shadows, but that just maybe because the sun gives a different tone to the images when compared to artificial light.

Light [Sun and Shadows]

Here the light was playing on the back of this sign, the constant shuffle of the shadows because of the wind changed the image. I could not get the same image twice if I tried.

Photowalk [The Moon]

I went on a walk later in the evening and took a picture of the moon, the only light source at the time.

The Body [Tattoo]

My sister recently had this tattoo done. When looking at it, unlike in the Russian jails, people do not initially understand what the tattoo means. This is an image that is of her own design, and it meaning really only known to her until disclosed.

Tattoos are becoming more a part of self-expression than a telling of the wearer's life story, even in the Russian criminal system. My sister's tattoo is of her astrological sign: Libra (the Scales).

The tattoo is like a self-portrait using the skin as the canvas or film, whether in the past or in modern times.

Perspective [Looking at Shadows]

I was looking down, while filling up my truck and I saw the shadows of the ladders beside these gas tanks and how they seem to grow out of the giant shadow at the foot of the tanks.

Light Source [Sun Beams]

The sun beams through these holes reminded me alot of abstract photography, and I thought that I needed to get them on film.

Photowalk [Hydrant]

The bushes in this image look like they are natural fire hydrants because of how close they are to the actual hydrant. I am sure this is doggy bathroom heaven. I really like how the hydrant is the most vibrant part of this image, so when looking at the image your eyes can travel instead of focusing on one thing, and losing the rest of the image.

Weather [Frozen Cattails]

Landscape.

Wire [Motorcycle]

This motorcycle is made out of twisted wires. I tried to get a good image, but my reflection is still visible in the glass. The artist's name escapes me right now, but I believe that he is a local artist and 2/3 of the proceeds for buying a motorbike goes to charities and the building of schools in Burma.

Perspective [Tug o' War]

This is my dog, Hunter. I thought that I would post this image becuase it is of a persepective that I usually would not use to photograph him. I tried to get level with him as I was playing with him, instead of the usual me above him looking down approach. Being at his level in the image makes me feel like I am still playing with him becasuse he is at the level of my eyes.

Weather [Again with the Fog]

This first image here is of an old spiderweb that I found by the UH entry with the vehicle loop. The hoarfrost made the web visible to me for the first time, and the web has been there a while, I just never noticed it before. The second image I posted is very dark, which is interesting since it was taken at 11:00am in blazing daylight. I had to turn my eyes away and just point and click my camera, which was on my phone. The lighting in this image is not at all representational to the lighting that I was experiencing, my camera compensated for the exposure of sunlight.

Trapped Spider [Black&White]

I do not know how long this spider has been trapped, but I placed the glass outside and he must have crawled away to freedom, because when I came back he was gone. *Whew* I took pictures in both color and black&white, and I found that a color image lacked the despair I felt for the spider being trapped.

Fairy Wings [PhotoWalk]

This weekend I did another walk around Lethbridge, on my first walk I found so many things that I did not notice about Lethbridge. I have lived here my entire life and I have never walked the streets of downtown. Mainly because I live on a farm 30 min outside of the city, but still, twenty-one years is a long time to have never walked these very familiar streets. On this second walk I completely changed my upcoming project. I found many different things. My image here with the fairy wings was inside a bus shelter. I could not resist placing myself in front of them for a picture. I saturated the color to make them brighter in the light. My over-all experience has been that walks should become a habit, things change so quickly week to week, that they are hardly noticed and photography kind of makes them permanent and timeless.

Lighting/Weather [Foggy Lamp]

I was walking into the University and I came across this lamp post and tree. The fog made lighting from the sun impossible, and the lighting from the lamp was dimmed drastically. So I hightlighted the light by doing a "color pop" on photoshop.com. This was a practice attempt at color popping for my assignment.

Weather [PhotoWalk]

The Thursday Photowalk around the University really inspired me to get out this weekend and do a solo walk. It was quite nice to get away from the textbooks and due dates and just take a breather from it all, while also getting done one part of my Photo III assignment. I went to Park Lake for my solo adventure and I got some photographs of the still present hoarfrost and fog that came rolling in a few days before hand.

Weather [What the Fog]

Today was a strange weather day. There was fog on one side of town, that made it dark and cold, while the otherside, was warm and sunny. Two very different settings all within a few kilometers of each other.
I was able, as I was leaving the University around 4pm, to snap a photo of the fog from across the coulees. Then, after a few errands, I was driving and went into the fog. It was stil quite sunny when I entered the fog (it was about 4:45ish) and all light was dimmed down completely. I was able to get a shot of this too. Interesting weather, fanatastic shift in lighting, setting, and moods.

Lighting and Reflections [I Wear My Sunglasses @ Night]

This pair of sunglasses that I have are really reflective. The flash from my camera makes them look really Hollywood because the majority of the light is reflected back onto the camera lens. Since my flash is really bright I think that it is a good thing I was wearing those sunglasses, otherwise I may have become blind.
Reflected light can be utliized as a light source. With my image here this is not the case. My light source is my flash, which is just reflected back into the camera. Reflected light as a light source would be the light from "Source A" hits "Object B", then the light is reflected off of "Object B" to light up "Object C", and then "Object C" is photographed. That would be a case of where reflected light would be used as a light source.

Lighting [Pumpkins]

I know that this image may be a little dated for this project, but bare with me. I was making room on my computer this weekend for all the new wonderful photos that I will be taking this semester, but when I saw this one I knew it had to be posted. The lighting (Oh yes! There I go on again about lighting) is very suitable for this image. The candle light, with its flickering glow gives the image the correct "haunted" feeling. If there was more light, like a flash used, the image would not hold the same meaning becuase all around the Jack-'O'-Lantern faces would have been visible, giving them a less interesting setting.

Light Source [Flower Lamp]

Considering that the last image that I took (my horrible portrait using the camera in the digital lab) was not really up-to-snuff due to the lighting, I wanted to look at different light sources. This is an image of one that I have in my house and was by far the most interesting.

The light is warm, but I do not think that it would work as a main light, possibly a fill light. But overall that is not what it was meant to be used for, it is mainly for aesthetics. Perhaps if I find more interesting light-sources this may turn into a Bernd & Hilla Becher typography, without the strict photograph guidelines, like the cloudy day, similar size, etc. I will have to keep my eye on the light, and go towards it for a shot.

First

Here is my first posting of a portrait, what horrid lighting. :(
